13 New Books from An Gúm to Add to Your Reading List in 2026!

As we step into a new year, parents, teachers and young people have the opportunity to enjoy the latest selection from An Gúm. Before Christmas, the President of the Gaelic Athletic Association, Iarlaith Ó Broin, launched 13 new titles at the official launch of An Gúm’s 2025 publications, a versatile collection suitable for both the classroom and recreational reading.
The launch underscored the vital need for a wide range of high-quality books on shelves countrywide, ensuring that every young person’s Irish-language literacy journey is supported both at home and at school.
For the Young Reader
The latest children’s picture books are full of magic and colour. Asaílín Abú! by Pauline Devine and Misneach i mBeithil by Gabrielle Ní Mheachair offer enchanting stories for children, brought to life by the gorgeous illustrations of Fergal O’Connor.
If you need a good laugh, look no further than Níl Éisc le Trust, a clever translation of Neil Sharpson’s acclaimed Don’t Trust Fish. It is a hilariously witty, yet subtly informative, tale that will leave readers in stitches.
Educational Books and Atlases
The new collection spans a wide variety of genres, including valuable educational resources. Highlights include the Féach Thart series for 6th class, and the Atlas Bunscoile, both by Máire Ní Ghallchobhair. These resources are designed to spark curiosity, taking children on a vivid journey across the globe.
A new series of 5 non-fiction books Inis Seo Dom! is perfect for primary school children. These books, translated by Pól Mac Fheilimidh, utilise an engaging “Q&A” format to turn fascinating facts into an enjoyable learning adventure.
Young Adult Fiction and New Classics
For independent readers, Eachtraí Saïd offers a compelling narrative adapted from Josep Lorman’s Catalan work L’adventura de Saïd, translated by Róisín Sheehy. Mystery fans can rejoice as editor Róisín Adams has revived the Réics Carló series with new editions of books by the legendary Cathal Ó Sándair: An Corpán sa Trunc and the iconic Dúnmharú i bPáirc an Chrócaigh.
A Historic Year for An Gúm
Founded in 1926, this year marks a historic centenary for An Gúm. As Professor Regina Uí Chollatáin noted at the launch, 2026 will be a landmark year for the publishing house. The public can look forward to an exciting calendar of events, including a national conference, literary competitions, and celebrations in libraries across the country.
