Inné agus Inniu: 100 Bliain den Ghúm An 7 Bealtaine, 2026
2026 sees An Gúm reaching a major milestone on its publishing journey. This year An Gúm celebrates 100 years since its establishment in 1926. As part of the centenary celebrations An Gúm organised a one-day conference in conjunction with Fiontar & Scoil na Gaeilge, DCU today.
The title of the conference is Inné & Inniu: 100 Bliain den Ghúm. From its inception An Gúm produced publications of all kinds: school texts and books for general readership, original works and works in translation, creative works and reference works. All these genres were represented on the programme for this conference. Throughout the day, aspects of An Gúm’s work and history were discussed. Some of the talks focused on specific personalities and authors and some focused on wider themes: the women who worked for An Gúm in the early years, An Gúm’s textbooks, Séideán Sí and how that project came into being, lexicography, co-editions, and even the concept of the book cover itself.
To conclude the day, Alan Titley launched a commemorative edition of Comhar entitled An Gúm@100.
On the day of the event, Muiris Ó Raghallaigh, Senior Editor of An Gúm said. ‘It will be a great opportunity to meet colleagues old and new, with friends in the Irish language world, with readers and people who have been involved with An Gúm over the years. It will also be an opportunity to look back at a century of work and at what the next century will bring.’
